Views from the City Walls

On Day 18 the four of us were up early to be the first to walk the Dubrovnik city walls! The views were amazing but it did get hot super quick, I would definitely recommend going first thing in the morning during the Summer. After making our way all the way around we spent some time exploring the city. We had brunch just inside the city walls and when Dale asked for chocolate milk the waiter brought him a tiny toy car instead. I included these photos in my last post, but we also found the famous Game of Thrones shame stairs and did some shopping. The rest of the afternoon was spent at the pool before we grabbed an early pizza dinner.

I don’t have great photos, but that night we went on a kayaking adventure all the way around Lokrum island at sunset. The island isn’t inhabited, but is home to the ruins of a Benedictine monastery and is believed to be cursed! It was a beautiful night and we also spent some time chatting with a British couple before ending the day with gelato from our favorite spot, Peppino’s!

Hello, Dubrovnik

After our afternoon in Mostar we were off to Dubrovnik! Our amazing Airbnb was just outside the city walls and Alex was nice and dropped us off before he went and returned our rental car. Once we had settled in a bit, we headed up to the rooftop pool and enjoyed a cheese board from the restaurant next door. We also had some time to wander through the city – it was amazing from the first glimpse! That night there was a crazy full moon that reflected over the water and it was off to bed so that we could enjoy our last few days in the city.

Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina

On day 17 Dale picked up croissants before our drive to Mostar! In order to get to Dubrovnik we had to drive through Bosnia and Herzegovina so we decided to make it a day trip. Our only difficulty was finding a spot to park the car, but once we found a lot we were off to explore. Mostar was filled with beautiful stores and amazing views from the rebuilt medieval bridge. We had an amazing lunch which started with Turkish coffee.

After lunch we visited a mosque that was open for tourists and climbed to the top of the minaret. The views were amazing but I was a little afraid of height! The rest of our visit was spent walking around town before we got back on the road to our last stop: Dubrovnik.

Back to Split

Day 16 arrived and we spent a few hours in the morning relaxing by the pool at our amazing Airbnb. We were all very sad to leave! We took the ferry back across to Split and checked into our next place. From there we wandered around town and had a great dinner near the water complete with spaghetti carbonara. Next we took a closer look at the Palace of Diocletian, which is an ancient Roman palace built between 295 and 305 CE by the Emperor Diocletian and was where he lived in is retirement. Our last stop of the day was finding gelato before walking back to our Airbnb before our drive to Mostar the next morning!

Bol, Brac

Our last full day on the island was all about celebrating Alex’s birthday! Once we woke up we drove to Bol to visit Zlatni Rat Beach. This famous pebble beach comes to a point and we found some open beach chairs and spent some time relaxing. Once we were hungry we grabbed lunch at one food court hidden away in the shade near the beach.

We decided to spend the afternoon at a winery which was located at a family home on the island. The four of us took some beautiful photos looking over Bol on our way and then enjoyed a full tasting with snacks before getting some more pool time back at the house. Our Airbnb host graciously surprised us with a beautiful birthday cake for Alex, too! That night we dressed up and went back to the Grill Garden restaurant for another amazing meal.

Pakleni Islands and Bol, Croatia

A short boat ride from Hvar, the next stop of our boat trip was visiting the Pakleni Islands! Our guide dropped us off at Carpe Diem Beach for a few hours at the beach. The beautiful blue water was perfect for swimming and we had cocktails and were able to truly sit back and relax.

After getting back on the boat, our last stop of the day was Bol back on the main island of Brac. We choose to have lunch at the restaurant recommended by our boat driver and enjoyed the food and views. After some time walking around town we were back on the boat for one last swim before our drop off in Milna. Sophie, Alex, Dale & I then made an easy pasta dinner back at our Airbnb before getting some rest!
