In early December I had the chance to take a royal iced sugar cookie workshop from the talented Bernard Shondell for Hallmark’s #My5Days. During the workshop he shared tips and tricks for baking the perfect sugar cookies and taught us how to decorate using royal icing. I absolutely love how my cookies turned out and can’t wait to get them out of the freezer for our Christmas Eve party!
Hallmark Stained Glass Workshop
At the end of the year, our lettering group at Hallmark participated in a two day stained glass workshop! I was SO excited to learn about stained glass, and used the opportunity to make a special piece for the baby’s room. Matt Kessler leads workshops at Hallmark, and was also kind enough to solder my piece for me so I wouldn’t be exposed to the lead while pregnant. I love how it turned out and can’t wait to get it hung up just as soon as our blinds arrive!
Weaving Workshop
Popping in today to share my finished weaving from a workshop with Haley Kellerman of B.Spoken Textiles! This quick weekend project was super relaxing and I can’t wait to get going on my next piece. I’m hoping to be able to spend a few of #My5Days this year in her intermediate class at Hallmark. Enjoy!
TMS Yarn Monogram Workshop
I had SO much fun leading this yarn monogram workshop for Think.Make.Share.! Head over to the blog to read all about our process, and to see some amazing details from everyone's pieces. Hopefully you will find yourself inspired to create a monogram for your home!
Emily Martin Carousel Book Workshop
On Friday I had the privilege to attend a workshop led by Emily Martin. The focus of the workshop was to learn the workings of a carousel book. Each participant created a book using templates designed by Emily with each room illustrating different pop-up techniques. Emily Martin earned a MFA degree in painting, from the University of Iowa in 1979, having previously earned a BFA and MA in drawing and painting, respectively. She started the Naughty Dog Press in 1996 to produce her own limited editions of primarily sculptural and movable artist's books. Martin joined the University of Iowa Center for the Book in 1998, to teach a variety of classes exploring artists' books, including Moveable & Sculptural Books, Paper Engineering & Pop Up Books and Artists Books. During her career she has produced over 35 limited edition artist's books using a variety of production techniques including letterpress printing, intaglio printing, silkscreen printing, inkjet printing and photocopies. Martin is very interested in the intersection of the book as an art form with the traditional craft of bookbinding.
