In early December I had the chance to take a royal iced sugar cookie workshop from the talented Bernard Shondell for Hallmark’s #My5Days. During the workshop he shared tips and tricks for baking the perfect sugar cookies and taught us how to decorate using royal icing. I absolutely love how my cookies turned out and can’t wait to get them out of the freezer for our Christmas Eve party!
#My5Days One Color Flat Lay Challenge!
Hallmarker Michael Ong recently started a one color flat lay challenge on Instagram for #My5Days! I had the best time wandering around my house grabbing all the pink. Items include my wedding shoes, my favorite water bottle and even a Hallmark envelope. Enjoy!
Peony Season
This time of year is my absolute favorite because my peony bushes are in full bloom! I also got the chance to participate in a very special #My5Days workshop arranging flowers so my house is filled with bouquets. I can’t wait to share more about that workshop at a later date, but for now I will be enjoying all the blooms.
#My5Days Screen Printing
A few weeks ago I spent a Friday screen printing for the first of my 2019 #My5Days! Every year I look forward to having the time to either try something new or spend a day exploring. I decided to letter our neighborhood’s name for t-shrits and prints for this first day away! I’m really happy with how they turned out and I love having a better understanding of screen printing for future projects. Thanks to Press Monkey Studio for leading this workshop, if you need any custom printing done Brian is your guy!
Ability KC Mural
Last week was super special as my friend Meredith and I saw the mural we have been working on since November come to life at Ability KC, a local organization that serves children with disabilities. Our fellow Hallmarkers volunteered to help us transfer and paint the 28 foot mural over four days (many of which participated through #My5Days!). Take a peek at the final mural design and time-lapse video below, I hope that the patients and staff at Ability KC enjoy this mural for many years to come!
Block Printing for #My5Days
Last Thursday I spent the last of #My5Days at a block printing workshop led by Marisol Ortega. She spent the morning teaching us how she uses block printing in her illustration and lettering work, and then we were let loose to create patterns and other lettering or illustration focused pieces. I loved the freedom of creating one small square and seeing the different ways it could be printed to create patterns. In the afternoon I played around with an illustrated letter "A." I would love to incorporate this technique into future lettering pieces! Thanks, Hallmark, for five days this year to make & explore.
